FTP and how to upload your website

When we set up your hosting account, we will provide full details about how to log into your FTP account. This will allow you to upload your website files from your computer to our servers so that they will be available to anyone on the Web. Once your account has been setup, any files you upload are visible on the Web. Also, any changes you make to your site by uploading a new or modified page will be active once you complete the upload.

To log into your FTP account and upload files, you will need to enter the following information into your FTP software:

  • Host Address: ftp.yourdomainname.co.uk (or .com, etc.)
  • Port: 21 (this is usually set by default)
  • Username: We will allocate you a username, usually the yourdomainname part of your domain name. This can be changed on request.
  • Password: We will allocate you a password. This can be changed on request. Customers using the Control Panel option will have full control to set and update their password.
There are many examples of FTP software including standalone software WS-FTP (www.ipswitch.com) and CuteFTP (www.cuteftp.com). Also, many web authoring packages, such as Adobe GoLive (www.adobe.com) include FTP software.
